2009 Renault F1 R29

The 2009 Renault F1 R29 was a single-seater racing car designed by the Renault F1 Team for use in the 2009 Formula One season. The car was powered by a 2.4 litre V8 engine, and featured several advances in aerodynamics, suspension and braking. The car was driven by two-time World Drivers’ Champion Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr, who replaced Giancarlo Fisichella from the start of the 2009 season.

The car was designed to compete in the 2009 season, with technical regulations that emphasised cost-effectiveness and reduced aerodynamic downforce. This meant that the car had to be designed with a much narrower front wing, reduced sidepod sizes and simpler exhaust systems. The R29 also featured a longer wheelbase than the previous season’s car, which improved stability.

The car featured several aerodynamic innovations, such as the F-duct, which allowed the driver to redirect airflow over the rear wing and reduce drag. The R29 also featured a new suspension system, which allowed for better traction and stability in corners. The car was also fitted with a new braking system, which allowed for improved stopping power and brake feel.

Despite the car’s competitiveness, Renault finished the season in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. This was largely due to the team’s inability to score points consistently, with their only consistent points scorer being Alonso. The team was also hampered by the fact that they used the same engine throughout the season, while other teams had updated their engines multiple times.

The R29 was replaced by the 2010 Renault R30 for the 2010 season, and the car has since become a fondly remembered part of Renault’s Formula One history. The car was also the last Renault-powered car to win a Grand Prix, with Alonso’s victory in Singapore being the team’s last victory.
